About Word

Microsoft word is the word processing application which is very popular and included in all the editions and varying suites of Microsoft Office. It was first released for Microsoft Windows in 1989. when it was entitled Word for Windows 1.0.

Microsoft Word is widely used amongst lay persons, students and professionals. It is used to create both simple and complex documents, such as; letters, resumes, assignments, memos or reports. Word offers users tools such as spell checker, text style and alignment, the ability to add graphics, along with various other formatting and layout features. These tools and features enable the user to enhance the presentation of their word document. Word is a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) style word processor and a very user-friendly interface.

Microsoft continue to improve their software packages on a fairly regular basis, adding new features, time-saving tools and up-to-date functions. The latest edition of Word is Word 2013, which can be bought as a standalone project or bought along with a Microsoft Office suite.

A few features found in Word 2013:

  • A new read mode which allows users to display documents in a way which makes them much easier to read.
  • The ability to save and share files on the cloud using SharePoint or SkyDrive.
  • Object zoom is a new tool that enables users to quickly zoom into objects, such as; charts or images.
  • You can now open PDFs in Word 2013.
  • Choice of new templates to get started quicker.
