Microsoft Project

About Project

Microsoft Project is a project management application which is part of Microsoft Office, however, has never been included in any of the Office suites. Project is available in two editions, Standard and Professional. The application has primarily been designed to assist project managers in controlling project schedules and finances. It allows users to developing plans, assigning resources to certain tasks, managing budgets, tracking progress and analysing workloads. Its expansive tools and features allow project managers to manage long and complex projects with relative ease. Recognising is primary usage in professional workforces, Project can identify different classes of users; which can then have differing access levels to projects.

A few features found in Project 2010:

  • SharePoint synchronization which allows you to publish your project schedules, and receive updates from team members.
  • New timeline view makes viewing the schedule easier to understand.
  • Team planner allows you to drag and drop resources to test various project scenarios.
  • User controlled scheduling increases the flexibility of Project.
