Microsoft Powerpoint

About Powerpoint

Microsoft Powerpoint is a presentation application which was first introduced by Microsoft in 1990, as part of the Microsoft Office suite. The main function of Powerpoint is creating versatile presentations which consist of pages or 'slides'. Powerpoint offers various tools which enable the user to add text, graphics, sounds and videos to their slides. The application provides a level of flexibility which allows the objects to be moved around freely and placed where ever the user desires. The use also has the ability to enhance their presentation by choosing from a wide range of 'transitions', which are the movements between slides. The presentation can then be printed, displayed live on the computer, or navigated through by a presenter. If the presentation is to be displayed to larger audiences the presenter can use a video projector, and print audience handouts and/or speaker notes from Powerpoint.

The latest Powerpoint version is Powerpoint 2013, which can be found in the Microsoft Office 2013 suite. This offers users an up-to-date and improved experience, with expanded capabilities to create the most dynamic presentations.

A few features found in Powerpoint 2013:

  • New look which is much cleaner and caters for those using Powerpoint of tablets or smart phones.
  • Presenter View now allows presenters to see the notes on the screen whilst the audience only sees the slide.
  • Now widescreen friendly.
  • The ability to line-up and space objects equally using Smart Guides.
  • Improvements to motion path.
  • A new eyedropper for colour matching, allowing users to capture an exact colour from an object and then apply it to a shape.
