JavaScript is a scripting language developed by Netscape that is only marginally related to Java. JavaScript is intended to provide a quick and simple language for enhancing Web pages and servers. JavaScript is embedded as a small program in a web page that is interpreted and executed by the Web client. You can:

Enhance web pages using Select and other objects, create interactive images, change styles dynamically, load pages into new windows and verify form data.
Program the Windows object, the Document object, work with string and RegExp objects, handle browser specific differences.
Work with error-handling and debugging, manipulate arrays and data tables, use cookies and communicate with applets.
Produce dynamic HTML cross browser techniques allowing animation and handling user input with events.
